Leadership Training weekend for Seniors: 5-7 October 2012: Morning Star Tall Ship: Chatham

The cost will be £160 each. This is excellent value – and a fantastic opportunity. (If I hadn’t paid the deposit this week we’d have lost the slot as other groups were after the w/e). However, it is still a lot of money. If money is an issue, please say – and early – so we can arrange fund raising activities – or work - or something.
We have 11 places in total. (The morning star provides the skipper and 1st & 2nd mates – we provide the crew – this is not a holiday- everyone will work as part of a team – if the skipper feels adventurous and the winds and waves are good – that could include sailing through the night perhaps to Calais in teams of 4 on a rotate. That is unlikely, but you’ll still be in 3 teams, 1 team sailing the ship; 1 team preparing lunch, 1 team resting. Everyone helps with the main putting up and bringing down the sails. )
Who can come?
This trip is aimed at the Seniors;
· To support your badgework/leadership activity
· To encourage and deepen your friendships and bond the Seniors at the start of the year.
· To thank you for your help with other activities (see below)
There are also a number of you moving into seniors in the next year or so. There is a minimum age of 16, but the Morning Star will accept some under 16s based upon maturity etc. The boys receiving this who are under 16 can apply to come, but we can’t guarantee you a place at this moment.
How do I apply to come?
You need to ;
First come ….. Out of the 11 places , 3 have already gone to leaders – Edmund, Carl and Adam. Other leaders are interested. We have our core number of leaders now so same rules for leaders – get your deposits in asap. ’ll send some photos and video round to give you a better idea of what it’s like.
Please talk to your parents and get those cheques rolling in. I’m tempted to go again after looking through all the photos from last time – it was a fantastic experience. If we still have spaces after a couple of weeks I’ll widen the invite.
Jeff
PS – you’ll need to miss half a day’s school on the Friday – we need to arrive no later than 4pm so we can head down the estuary on Friday night and be positioned for sailing on the Saturday. Ideally we should aim to leave Reading at 1230 and arrive at Chatham by 2pm. I’m sure if you say it’s part of DofE/similar your school will be supportive.
