Leadership Training for Company Boys: Lakes District: 20th - 24th February 2013
"Leadership is a relationship of influence !"
We'll be unpacking this statement with 10 of our company section boys over our 5 day stay in the Lakes. Based upon the letter of Jude we'll see how biblical leadership differs from false or toxic leadership as we consider what a servant leader is and then looking at the letter to Philemon we'll see how the leader works this out in practice by applying the following principles;
1: Influencing with vision;
2: Influencing with values
3: Influencing through relationships
4: Influencing with accountability
The lads will then have the opportunity to put the principles into action as they help organise and lead the afternoon and evening activities, which provisionally are;
Wed: organise & carry out the food shopping, route , non services stop etc. - night time wide game on arrival
Thur: local river walk incorporating zip wire and river swimming
Fri: climbing Scafel Pyke - weather permitting
Sat: Windermere exploration incorporating a progressive wide game.
Sun: helping to lead morning service in Heversham parish church - tbc. and shopping in Morecombe
In the evening we'll review the day as the lads lead worship, with different boys providing the thought for the day and leading prayers and hopefully music. The adult leaders will be awarding 'Leadership Points' - and points mean .....
Then we'll play Carcassonne, watch films on the big screen and go and see if we can stop the local yobs burning down neighbouring buildings !
The lads will be sleeping on their own mats & sleeping bags on a carpetted floor in a private house. They will need to bring proper waterproof walking boots and coats. We'll be having a test run of all their equipment on Wed 6th Feb. This gives us time to ask around for any needed equipment. Cost will be around £30 - we only have to cover food and petrol so we'll work that out when we get back.
The lads will then help to plan, organise and lead an overnight camp for the Junior section boys the following w/e at Rushall Farm.
That's about it for now - really looking forward to it;
Jeff
