Adam White wins Reading University Student Community Award 2013 (29th May 2013
We nominated Adam for the Reading University; Student Community Awards 2013 - which is an annual event held to recognise and celebrate the varied ways in which many of the 17,000 students give something back to the community while
they are at RG University. We knew that Adam had been shortlisted, as we were invited to the award presentation event this afternoon. Out of the 14 or so highly commended individuals - and some seriously good and committed stuff is
happening - including a commendation for a PHD student who is serving the Youth at ACF (Wycliffe got two mentions) - they only present an overall winner. This year they decided to award joint winners- and I'm delighted to report that
Adam won. Photos on Phil's facebook now - or will come through the official channels at some point. Adam was supported on the day by Phil, Edmund, Judith and myself.
I was most pleased that the selection committee member who introduced Adam - explained that a key consideration in why they selected Adam was that BB provides- and I've quoted from the nomination here - "to provide positive male role models to the boys and lads - especially those without a father at home". And talking to the Vice Chancellor, Sir David Bell afterwards, it was great to see that they get the vision of what we're trying to do at BB - this male community , role modelling stuff really does make a vital difference in the formation of these boys.
The introduction for Adam concluded with the RG Univ Chaplain quoting the last part of the nomination "We receive many grateful and positive comments from parents about how Boys' Brigade is helping their sons through difficult transitions and to grow and mature and develop a positive attitude to life. Adam should feel very proud at
the significant contribution that he has made to our organization, and fully deserves to be recognised through the Student Community Award." We're delighted with the invaluable help which all our student leaders give to BB - indeed all of our helpers and leaders. It felt to me - and I'm sure Adam would be the first to agree with this - like it was a team award. It's just fantastic that the ministry that we do was recognised for it's positive contribution to our community.
So very well done to Adam - but also - very well done to the whole team.
