Ladies Evening 2013
On Saturday 9th March we held our 4th Annual Ladies Evening. Once again Rob Emmett laid on a superb 3 course menu - with a choice of two items for each course. Our next door neighbour said she'd happily pay £30 or more for a meal like that in a restaurant. On top of that, many Ladies commented that the service was superb - polite and attentive boys - again one lady commented that it was better service than in a restaurant.
The boys again turned out in force to help prepare, lay tables, serve and wash up. In total over 30 boys and leaders helped make sure it was the smoothest run event yet. Philip Whittingham gets the longest stint ffrom a boy - 2pm to 10pm, and Adam for a leader 1pm to 11pm . And despite a slightly lower number of ladies (58) this year - we still turned a proft of £325 which will help subsidise our forthcoming trip to the Brecon Beacons.
The highlight of the evening for me were the year 7 boys - (11/12 yr olds) who worked really hard all evening, looked very smart in their uniform and did a great job up front in greeting the ladies, taking coats to the cloakroom, escorting to their table, serving drinks and meals - and especially Ben Cunnington-Lean - who said to me during the evening, "I'm absolutely loving this" ! - it's conveying to the boys that serving others while good in itself, can be great fun and very rewarding for those involved, is what Ladies Evening is all about.
The evenng was conculded by Mike, our Captain - very succinctly drawing every thing to a conclusion. We were disappointed though not to be entertained by "the joke"! We were out of the building by just after 11pm, which shaved over an hour off previous years. Mike has promised there will be a Ladies Evening in 2014.
