We have a whole campsite to ourselves this year – we’re next to the river, away from any other houses etc. have a large field for sports games on the campsite; opposite the castle grounds which we found last year is great for wide games and sliding down steep slopes. I’m thinking of hiring a big gas BBQ this year – so we’ll have a meat feast all w/e.
Last year we had 14 dads. The trophy for best effort went to Solomon who flew in from Kuala Lumpar just for the w/e to be with Biruk. I’m hoping for at least 20 dads this year. This is a great opportunity to build a male community where the lads can – almost by osmosis – develop and learn as they have fun and play. We’ll also do some short sessions on how we can develop these crucial relationships in our lives.
The age for the boys is a minimum of 8 (ie. To be in Juniors) – we’ve struggled to attract some of the older teens – but we really miss you as we all need to build a community for all age groups – there is plenty of room to find your own corner & space. Boys tend to sleep together. Likewise, not every father is able to come, so grab a bloke who is and get that male bonding going. (NB- we also have to resource the Dorney Lakes fund raiser over this w/e so some of the older boys may also have to do a morning out at Eton.)
The w/e is really relaxed – and fun. Tents are provided for those who need them – we have 5 brand new 6 man/ 7 boy dome tents – and our new exhibition shelter to cook & eat under. There are facilities on site – but I’m guessing they are not as nice as last year!.
We’d love to do some canoeing on the river if anyone has a canoe we can borrow – or some contacts.
Cost: we charge per dad/man – lads are free. If we get 20 then campsite charges will be £30 each, plus £10 to help fund the new tents etc. Then it’s just your share of the food on top. Couldn’t be cheaper.
Feel free to invite friends to come along – and if anyone fancies coming to help with cooking & set up etc??
I’ll send out periodic reminders – give a shout if you need more info
