SURVIVAL CAMP: 2008 - 2015

The concept for Survival Camp started with the idea of just having a simple weekend in September - when it's warm enough to still camp - and go out and do some fun and  outdoors stuff. We especially want the lads to experience the wonder of nature at first hand and to have the freedom to be creative and to design their own games and activities - den building being a firm favorite.  Into the mix we've thrown some activities - rabbit skinning , shooting etc. , wide games etc. We try though to keep the programme relaxed and light  so there is plenty of time to enjoy what they are doing.

On our first camp in 2008 , we took just 10 Juniors for one night to the YMCA cabin at Padworth. Since then we've grown pretty much year on year - both in terms of numbers- leaders and boys, the age range, moving to Rushall Farm,  ideas for what we can do (ie. we woke up one day and thought, they spend so much time building their dens, why don't they sleep in them as well? - so now they do).  And the leaders increasingly being inspired by the likes of Bear Gryll's and other adventurers.  And we even have an increasing Survival Camp Risk Assessment document as well !

The exciting development for this year is that many of those first Juniors are now Seniors. During those 8 years not only have they done many Survival Camps but lots of other activities such as BB hiking competitions, DofE expeditions, house building in South Africa etc etc.- (this website has details of all our activities - have a look - it's brilliant!)  - so I'm looking to hand over the running of the weekend to our Seniors (with the team in background to support them of course). In particular it's been amazing to see how these lads have met and continue to walk with God along the way. The lads will also be giving the talks  over the weekend. They have grown up well - and we hope Survival Camp has been a part of their personal journeys - and we hope to see the current Juniors & Inters follow in their footsteps. (The Company lads are well are on their way).

Below you will find the 'what you need to know ' for this year's camp. And make sure you have a look at the photos from previous years. The map is also to the right - hover your mouse over 'Survival Camp on the dark blue tool bar above.

Survival Camp 2016 is already booked with a fantastic communicator to young people as our guest.
